RED OAK, Iowa (AP) -- Two men escaped injuries when their airboat hit a sandbar and overturned on the East Nishnabotna River in southwest Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says Brian Christiansen, of Red Oak, was driving the boat, owned by Donald Rensch, also of Red Oak, who was a passenger.

The men were boating on the river Friday evening. They hit the sandbar and the airboat flipped. Both men were thrown, and the boat caught on fire.

Officials say Rensch was apparently teaching Christiansen how to drive the airboat when the accident happened. Both men refused medical treatment at the scene.
