U.S. should pursue 'non-threatening' measures with Iran
Posted: Friday, July 11, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Two-hundred eight House Democrats and Republicans have co-sponsored a non-binding resolution that approves an act of war against Iran. Please contact your representative to ask him or her to vote AGAINST this provocative resolution. H.Con.Res. 362 is a resolution that demands President Bush initiate an international effort to effectively impose a land, sea and air blockade on Iran. {M3
Without United Nations authority, such a blockade would be an act of war. A likely Iranian response might be an act of violence to break the blockade, which could spark a chain of events leading to total war. This country can hardly sustain the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, without adding another country to an already overburdened military and U.S. economy.
The U.S. should be pursuing non-threatening means to work with the Iranian government. As a matter of record, Iran is a country which is friendly to the controlling Shiites of Iraq, a country whose fledgling democracy we are supposedly trying to assist. War with Iran, whether it be initiated by a blockade by the U.S., or by any other means, would inflame the entire Muslim world. Please let your representative know that H.Con.Res.362 is counterproductive in bringing about dialogue with Iran. War is not the answer to a peaceful world. If war were the answer, what a peaceful world this would be. Please speak up. -- Renee G. Weinberg

Even the ultra conservative Pat Buchanan says that Bush is going to go to war with Iran before the election on trumped up claims. He believes that it will be accomplished by way of a back door tactic of Israel making a preemptive strike against Iran and Bush bypassing the authority of our congress via our defense treaty with Israel.
Iraq and Saddam were our creations, so little opposition was forwarded from the international community over the occupation, but Iran is a different story. We could very well become involved in confronting much more than just Iran. As overtaxed as our military is at the moment we would have little choice against Iran but to take a "scorched earth" approach from the air. There will be plenty of opposition when we join Israel in mass killings of innocent Muslims. "
