Meet your Roller Dames

Members of the Sioux City Roller Dames provided the following mini-biographies:

{M3Michaela Anderson, aka Lil' Boomer

{M3"I'm Michaela Kristine Anderson, 21, and am currently attending Morningside College and working for a Bachelors in Nursing. I am working two jobs, in the ER at St. Lukes Regional Medical Center and also at the Outback Steakhouse. I'm originally from Omaha."

Dolly Butz, aka Hell 'raizin' Kitty

{M3"I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I ran track and cross county in high school and college. I'm a graduate of Drake University. I'm a journalist. I currently work for the Sioux City Journal as the public safety reporter."

{M3Amber Chamberlain aka Breakneck Blondie

{M3"I'm 25 years old. I am currently taking a break from grad school to continue working as a Special Education Assistant. I love working with children and looking to go into the field of Autism. Roller Derby is the first team sport I have ever joined and I am loving every minute of it. There is nothing better than stopping the other team's jammer from getting by you. Remember, this girl doesn't turn heads, she breaks necks!"

Melissa Dittberner, aka Mo Pain

"I am a 26-year-old single mother of two kids: Baylee, 7 and Boone, 5, my pride and joy! I am currently a full-time student at USD studying drug and alcohol abuse, and I am also a small business owner. I have been a certified licensed massage therapist for five years in the Yankton area."

Angela Eyer, aka Witch Splitter

"I have a wonderful son and husband who has my heart. I am a stay-at-home mom working part time for the fitness department at the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA. I have dedicated my life to a healthier, stronger and happier way of living after much hard work and dedication, successfully losing and keeping off over 70 pounds in just over a year. I wish to show by example that anyone can influence, take charge of and change their own life and have a blast doing it!"

{M3"On the double life of a Sioux City Roller Dame, I would just like to tell you a little about me and my family, I am a 25-year-old wife and mother of three great girls. My occupation is a dental assistant for Siouxland's best dental office. Roller Derby is a very exciting, aggressive and fast-paced sport that I know Siouxland will love. So, remember to get out there and support your Sioux City Roller Dames!"

{M3Kris Harlow, aka Steel Bullitt Stella

{M3"I grew up in Sioux Center, Iowa, moved here in 1996. I am self-employed and work at Visible Changes Salon, 3527 Singing Hills Blvd. I have been there for seven years now and love it! Other interests are: Muscle Cars, the older the better!; riding my motorcycle and hangin' with my Derby Girls!

"The story behind my name: Well it all started with the name Stella. I had returned to the single life and bought my first Mustang a couple years back and of course "Stella Got Her Groove Back" is a movie title that one of my favorite clients started singing to me once she found out about the Mustang and me being single. So ... Stella did not only become my name but my car's name as well. Then came along Roller Derby! Woohoo!! So if you know anything about Mustangs, Bullitt is a kickin' Mustang and Steel is what my favorite year 1965 Fastback is made of. There you go, Steel Bullitt Stella!"

{M3"I'm a mom of two beautiful girls and office manager at American Family Insurance, Mary Baklund Agency. I love to skate and hang out with my girlfriends. I also love to go watch my boyfriend when his band plays a gig. Some other things I like to do are camping, reading and walking. I am a little nuts and a lot of fun!"

{M3Trisha James, aka Lucy Lowblows

{M3"I am a wife and a mother of a 1-year-old son. I work as a sales assistant for Knoepfler Chevrolet. I was born and raised in South Sioux City, Nebraska. My mother started taking me roller skating when I was able to walk and I have always loved it, so I figured Roller Derby was the next step. I have never had such a good time getting my butt kicked (and kicking some back)."

{M3"I was born and raised in Northfield, Minn. I recently graduated from Morningside College with a degree in photography and graphic design."

{M3"Day life includes writing like a mad hatter to beat luminous deadlines while decoding regulations and applying them in a nonbiased fashion (all while remaining cognizant of potential danger). So, in other words I'm a pirate in training! I also enjoy long walks in the park and candlelight dinners."

{M3"From the very begining of my life. it didn't take me long to figure out that I had to be tough and hold my own! I grew up on a farm and I was the sixth child out of seven -- five boys and two girls. I have always been active in everything I do. In high school, I was in basketball, softball, track and several school activities. I also was very fortunate to be Homecoming Queen. I was active in 4H and showed 4H cattle. After high school, I went to College of Saint Mary in Omaha and received an associate's degree in Business Administration.

"I have been married for 19 years to Keith Kuhlman. We have two male Samoyed dogs named Ike and Otis. We have lived, on an acreage between Anthon and Oto, Iowa for 18 years. I have been a EMT-B for 13 years, and I am a volunteer and board member for the Oto Ambulance. I have worked in the Emergency/Trauma Department at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City as an ER Tech for the last 10 years. I also have been working towards a degree in nursing for the past several years.

{M3"I am a mother of two, son Eaon and daughter Elexis. I'm engaged To Ralph Camerer who has two daughters, Samantha and Jessica. I have been a pawnbroker for 3 years at Mister Money. My fave color is green. I enjoy camping and hanging out with my family and, of course, playing Roller Derby. I grew up in Sioux City, went to West Middle and West High, elementary at Everett. I drive a big yellow Jeep and enjoy taking my fellow Roller Dames bumper skating. (They hang onto my jeep and I pull them around. lots of fun!)"

Melissa Ploen, aka Bustabitch Barbie

{M3 "I am a 28-year-old wife and mom of three. I have worked at Mercy Medical Center as a radiologic technologist for the last eight years. I have lived in the Siouxland area all of my life. I grew up in Bronson, Iowa and now currently live on a farm outside Kingsley, Iowa with my husband Eric and our children. In my spare time I like to spend time with my family and friends, I like to do anything outdoors, like camping, boating, horseback riding, etc. I have always loved sports and competition, so a sport like Roller Derby that has both of those PLUS major physical contact is just right up my alley."
