Man now faces second-degree murder for mom's fall

Posted: Sunday, July 20, 2008
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- A Nebraska man accused of causing his mother's fatal fall from a four-story balcony in Omaha in 2004 now faces a second-degree murder charge.

Douglas County prosecutors upgraded the charge from manslaughter because the statute of limitations for manslaughter has expired.

Forty-seven-year-old Stephen Pullens was arrested earlier this year in California and brought back to Omaha for trial.

Authorities say 73-year-old Matsolonia Myers died after falling from her condominium's balcony, but there was no damage to the balcony railing. Investigators say Pullens was visiting his mother on Dec. 13, 2004, the day she died, and the fall did not appear accidental.
