YORK, Neb. (AP) -- The health department says it has confirmed two cases of E. coli infection in southeast Nebraska and has received reports of more people with similar symptoms.

Vicki Duey of the Four Corners Health Department in York says investigators are trying to determine what caused the infections. She would not release details about the patients.

Duey says there's no significant public health threat.

Symptoms of E. coli infection include stomach cramps and diarrhea that may turn bloody within one to three days.

Federal experts estimate E. coli sickens about 73,000 people and kills an average of 61 people each year in the United States.
