DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Flooding fears are on the rise in southern Iowa where thunderstorms have dumped heavy rain for two days.
The National Weather Service says over 8 inches of rain have soaked Wayne and Union counties since Wednesday.
There were no reports of flooded homes or evacuations on Friday, but flash flooding from the rain closed several roads.
Storms early Friday dumped over 5 inches of rain on Allerton in Wayne County.
In Ringgold County, the Platt River was out of its banks. U.S. Highway 169 south of Mount Ayr (ehr) was closed because a bridge needs to be inspected.
Brad Small of the weather service says the threat of thunderstorms will continue into next week. He says Iowa hasn't moved into the dog days of summer and is still fighting to get out of spring.
