SIOUX CITY - A Chicago man was convicted Monday of distributing crack cocaine and possessing crack with the intent to distribute, according to U.S. Attorney Matt Dummermuth.
After a three-day trial, Jay Beane, 25, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine and one count of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of crack cocaine after a February 2008 incident in Sioux City. Beane faces jail time up to life in prison and fines up to $12 million.
Sentencing before U.S. District Court Judge Donald E. O'Brien will be set after a pre-sentence report is prepared. Beane is in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, based in Sioux City.
