SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Fremont denied South Sioux City Post 307 a berth in the Nebraska Class A Legion baseball state tournament with a 12-3 victory Monday in a district tournament consolation final.

Fremont broke out of the gates early scoring two runs in the first, second and third innings. The winners added two more in the sixth and finished it off with a four-run eighth inning in the nine-inning contest.

Fremont's Josh Ostrom's two-run homer in the bottom of the second snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted Fremont in front for good.

Fremont pounded out 15 hits in the contest, including eight off losing pitcher Ben Cardwell, who pitched into the third inning, giving up six runs.

South Sioux City, closing its season at 28-21, had 12 hits in the contest led by Tyler Hoch's three singles.

Nick Peters, Antonio Garcia and Tyler Hohenstein had two apiece for Post 307. Hohenstein had a pair of doubles and scored two runs while Garcia drove in a run with a single.

Fremont will face Grand Island Home Federal in the championship game at 5 p.m. today. Fremont would need to beat Grand Island twice to secure the district title game. A second championship game would be at 8 p.m.

Both teams, however, advance to the state tournament with the district champion going to a state tournament at Millard West while the district runner-up will play in a state tournament in Norfolk.
