Special Olympics Expo needs volunteers

SIOUX CITY -- Volunteers are needed to help with this Saturday's Special Olympics Expo at Leif Erikson Park in Sioux City.
The 21st annual event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park, Geoff Hubbard, recreation superintendent, said Wednesday. The Parks and Recreation Department will hold clinics in tennis, softball, volleyball and swimming for Special Olympics athletes, followed by a free lunch for participants and volunteers.
Hubbard said about 50 people participant in the events, many coming from group homes. Officers from the Sioux City police and fire departments will be there to show off vehicles.
People may volunteer to serve as
-- Buddy volunteer to help participants move to and from each event.
-- Clinician volunteer to lead and guide participants in the sporting events.
-- Registration volunteer to register them and fill out name tags.
-- Set up volunteer to arrive at 9 a.m. to set up and prepare lunch.
-- Post event volunteer to gather equipment and clean up the park.
