" different Keith - The gas does little good without roads, maintenance crews and equipment, law enforcement, and all of the other tax funded services that support our transportation. State taxes that are dedicated to transportation haven't kept up with needed infrastructure improvements and upkeep and should be raised. The logical source for that is fuel taxes.

Likewise, the oil companies should also be our source for funding of federal transportation costs. It isn't about "punishing big oil" but rather about supporting transportation at the most logical level. Taxes are a cost of business to the oil companies and are passed along to consumers. I don't support general taxation of American business, but this tax is aimed at covering costs incurred by those who benefit from the services and infrastructure. Using taxation to force policy is counterproductive though. "

" Remarks don't make a lot of sense. Did you notice not one person responded to the good years this country had under the Clinton's? Not one of these responses refered to the cost of the Iraq War, nor did they even think if the Government is making so much money off of oil sales, why is this country still so far in the red? Why is our dollar worthless, and has been for 8 years? Do they not realize that the main oil riggs currently operating in this country are off-shore....located around the LA shore line? That is why we are very concerned about the current Troical Storm now brewing in that area? The Oil companies have had off-shore drilling rights all along....what they want now is to drill in protected areas.
With the mind-set of a lot of people here in this country, we should all be eliminated within 10 years. To bad, really sad. "

" Raising taxes is always the democrat answer, but it is the wrong answer.

The oil companies make roughly 4-8 cents per gallon, the fed makes 18.4 cents per gallon, and IA 20c, NE 25c, SD 22c. Not only that, but oil companies are already paying taxes on their profits.

Why not windfall profits taxes on those who really rake it in?? Big Government! "

If you could learn to read for comprehension you might have noticed that I disagreed with the Democrats on this issue. But since your politics are so black and white along party lines that you can't even recognize agreement when you see it you opted to get personal.

In that vein, you should know that I consider people like you to an excellent barometer of the issues. Whatever you are against must be right. It is a bit difficult to do that when you supply nothing beyond your appraisal of me. What do you think about the issues? Or do you? "
