Northwestern picked as GPAC pre-season volleyball favorite

Northwestern College is the pre-season pick by Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball coaches to win the 2008 league championship.

Coach Kyle Van Den Bosch's Red Raiders received 140 points in the polling of the league's coaches and claimed nine of the 13 first-place votes. Northwestern placed second in the GPAC last year with a 13-3 record and concluded a 31-12 season by advancing to the quarterfinals of the NAIA national tournament.

Morningside is second in the poll with 129 points and three first-place votes. Last season, the Mustangs won the league's regular-season and tournament titles.

Third-place Dordt received 122 points while fourth-place Hastings got 115 points and one first-place vote.

Briar Cliff is picked fifth with 97 points. Doane (94) is followed by Nebraska Wesleyan (72), Concordia (64), Midland Lutheran (60), Sioux Falls (45), Dana (29), Dakota Wesleyan (27) and Mount Marty (20).
