Girls Inc. groundbreaking today

Posted: Thursday, August 07, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Girls Inc. building in Cook Park will be held at 2 p.m. today at 500 Main St.

Plans call for the agency to build a 25,000-square-foot, single story building on the land, which will include a gymnasium.

Earlier this year, the City Council vacated the land in the northwest corner of the park and approved a 100-year lease and relocation agreement. Girls Inc. agreed to reimburse the city up to $60,000 for the costs associated with relocating a shelter and playground equipment in the park. Girls Inc. agreed to pay the city $1 a year for using the park ground.

The new building will allow the agency to expand its programming for girls. The new facility will replace the building at 723 Myrtle St.
