Morningside freshman orientation Aug. 22-25

SIOUX CITY -- Morningside College will welcome approximately 300 freshmen students to campus during four days of orientation activities Aug. 22-25. Fall semester classes for all Morningside students begin Aug. 26.

SIOUX CITY -- Morningside College will welcome approximately 300 freshmen students to campus during four days of orientation activities Aug. 22-25. Fall semester classes for all Morningside students begin Aug. 26.

Freshmen will start moving into residence halls at 8 a.m. Aug. 22. Later that day, the new students will be admitted to the class of 2012 during the college's traditional matriculation ceremony at 3 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium. A reception on the front lawn of Eppley will follow the ceremony.

Orientation activities on Aug. 23 include a "Morningside Olympics" competition on the Hilker Campus Mall and Bass Field starting at 3 p.m. A tailgate supper at 6 p.m. on the front lawn of Lewis Hall and a toga dance on the campus "M" at 10 p.m. will close out the day's activities.

Aug. 24 orientation events include a 10 a.m. worship service in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center followed by brunch in the Olsen Student Center dining room. From 3 to 5 p.m. students will participate in the "Amazing Race," an event designed to familiarize them with the campus. Students will gather for a "Slice of Morningside" pizza picnic with President John Reynders at 6 p.m. at Elwood Olsen Stadium.

On Aug. 25 students will meet with their Passport class, a first-year seminar class, and attend the presentation "The Ultimate Road Trip" on how to make the most of the college experience.

Other orientation activities will include informational meetings for students and parents, choral auditions, residence hall meetings and distribution of notebook computers.
