SILVER CITY, N.M. (AP) -- Searchers have found three adults and 14 children some 19 hours after they were reported missing during a school outing in southwestern New Mexico.

A handful of four-wheel-drive vehicles traveled muddy, mountainous roads to pick up the group in the Gila National Forest and bring them back to base camp.

Twelve search and rescue teams, some on horseback, and National Guard quick response teams were looking for the hikers. State police and U.S. Border Patrol aircraft also were involved in the search.

The group was from a charter school in Silver City. They were reported missing about 3 p.m. Wednesday and found about 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
