CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (AP) -- Tropical Storm Julio is pounding southern Baja California with heavy rains as its center pushes its way onto the tip of the resort-studded Mexican peninsula.
The U.S. Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm has moved inland with rains and winds of 45 mph (75 kph). It was located about 50 miles (85 kilometers) west-northwest of the state capital of La Paz on Sunday night.
Authorities say they evacuated more than 2,500 families living along riverbeds on the coast. The center of the storm has moved past Cabo San Lucas and is hugging the Pacific coast.
