CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- A Cedar Rapids man is in custody after a four-hour standoff with police at his home.
Police were called to Richard McElree's home around 3 a.m. Thursday on a report of a domestic disturbance.
Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin says McElree, who said he had a gun, had barricaded himself inside. He reportedly wouldn't let his separated wife and some children leave. Hamblin says the woman and children got out safely before McElree was arrested.
Police blocked off the area. Officials negotiated with McElree until about 7 a.m., when he surrendered.
McElree faces charges of assault domestic abuse and violation of a no contact order.
