DECATUR, Neb. -- Anna L. Malloy, 89, of Decatur died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons, Neb.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church in Decatur, Neb. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. vigil prayer service, at Pelan Funeral Home Lyons Chapel in Lyons. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
Anna Laura (McHenry) Malloy was born April 12, 1919, in Belmont, Neb., south of Crawford, Neb., to Clarence William and Hanna Dorothea Mathilda (Sjoberg) McHenry. Anna attended grade school and high school in the Chadron schools. She graduated from Chadron State College in 1941 with a bachelor's degree. She taught school in Decatur from 1941 to 1943.
On May 27, 1943, Mark Malloy and Anna Laura McHenry were united in marriage at Holy Family Catholic church in Decatur. They farmed southwest of Decatur. She attended Dana College in Blair and taught at District 10 country school between Decatur and Tekamah from 1962 to 1963. She then taught junior high students in Decatur from 1963 until her retirement in 1974.
Anna was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur.
Survivors include her three sons: Pat Malloy of San Angelo, Texas, Rev. Mike Malloy of Emerson, Neb., and Joe Malloy and his wife, Roberta of Decatur; a daughter, Karen Malloy of Sioux City; four grandchildren including Pat's sons, Brent Malloy of Cupertino, Calif., and Daniel Malloy of San Angelo, and Joe’s children, Megan Malloy of Lincoln, Neb., Evan Malloy of Decatur, a stepgrandson: Patrick Keefe of San Diego, California; two great-grandchildren, Mina and Kai, children of Brent Malloy and Chikako Sakurai of Cupertino; and a sister, Dora McHenry of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mark J.; a brother: Harry; a sister: Helen; and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Malloy.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
