GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) -- Grand Island city officials and Fonner Park management are expected to continue negotiations on an exhibition building at the racetrack's grounds.

The officials were expected to meeting Thursday morning, then have their work presented to the Grand Island City Council in the evening.

Officials say they hope to finalize details that would allow Wells Fargo Brokerage Services to build a 50,000-square-foot exhibition building on the Fonner Park grounds. The city would lease the building, which is estimated to cost $5 million, and then eventually own it.

Earlier this week, the City Council passed a 1.5 percent occupation tax on restaurants and nonalcoholic beverages that would raise just more than $1 million annually to pay for the building project.

Officials say the tax is scheduled to start Dec. 1 and last about six and a half years.
