A vote for Obama is a vote for the working class
Posted: Wednesday, September 17, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Our country is in crisis. Working-class families are struggling with day-to-day expenses. This presidential election is going to be a major turning point in our country's future. Inaccurate information is rampant.
The Tax Policy Center states people with very high incomes will benefit most from John McCain's tax plan. Obama's plan would give larger tax breaks to low- and middle-income taxpayers, but wealthy taxpayers will see their taxes increase. A tax on dividend and capital gains would increase but only for families earning over $250,000. Obama would allow President Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy to expire, then use this money to fund his health care plan. McCain will make Bush's tax cuts permanent (the rich get richer).
Obama's energy plan focuses on wind turbines, solar power and geothermal energy - all available NOW. McCain favors offshore drilling, nuclear power and clean coal. Drilling anywhere or everywhere will take 10 years to produce any oil. McCain proposes no new money for renewable energy.
McCain's whole campaign was based on experience and who was ready to lead until he chose Sarah Palin. Now he is the maverick of "change," a term he used to mock. Experience in Washington and the division of the parties has created this crisis. We need a president who has and will continue to inspire and unify our country. Vote wisely, vote for the working class, vote Barack Obama. -- Lisa Terriquez
