DWU maintains leads at GPAC men's qualifier

LINCOLN -- Dakota Wesleyan's men's golf team continues to lead the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
In the second qualifier tournament of the season, the Tigers outshot Nebraska Wesleyan 297-304 Thursday during action at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln.
Dakota Wesleyan, after two qualifiers, has a 586-605 lead over Nebraska Wesleyan.
Brett Abbotts led DWU with a 72 while teammate Nick Gates tied for second place with Dordt's Jared Rempel and Midland Lutheran's Justin Zebolsky at 73.
Gates is the leader after two meets with a 36-hole round of 143, two strokes ahead of Abbotts. Meanwhile, E.J. Hamilton of Nebraska Wesleyan is third (146) while Rempel (148) is in a three-way tie for fourth place with DWU's Andrew Farrand and Northwestern's Luke Vermeer.
Morningside is in third place in the current team standings with a 622. The Mustangs are followed by Sioux Falls (628), Hastings (632), Northwestern (634), Dordt (635), Briar Cliff (638), Midland Lutheran (640), Doane (660) and Concordia (715).
The third and fourth GPAC qualifiers will be contested in the spring at Hastings and Morningside, respectively. The winner of the four qualifiers and the medalist will advance to the NAIA men's national golf championships.
