Posted: Sunday, September 21, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- United Way of Siouxland honors local businesses and organizations with membership in its Hall of Fame. These companies have a proven track record of financial and volunteer support of the community through United Way.

Mike Bennett, campaign co-chair along with his wife, Margie, stated, "We applaud these companies for all that they do for United Way and hope that they serve as a role model to other organizations in Siouxland."

Hall of Fame companies for United Way include BPI Technology Inc., Great West Casualty Company, Klinger Companies Inc., Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City, MidAmerican Energy, Security National Bank, Terra Industries Inc., Tyson Fresh Meats Inc., Vantus Bank, the 185th Air Refueling Wing of the Iowa Air National Guard, Henjes, Conner & Williams PC, IBEW Local 449, UFCW Local 222 and the Waitt Family Foundation.

"Siouxland is just a great big small town and in small towns, neighbors help each other," said Col. Brian Miller, commander of the 185th Air Refueling Wing.

Recognition is given to these companies and organizations that have a long history of supporting United Way of Siouxland with successful annual employee campaigns that incorporate "Best Practices," their employees’ involvement as volunteers and their ongoing support of United Way’s mission.

Also supporting United Way efforts are corporate champions. United Way currently has 36 corporate champions, companies that have allowed their corporate gift to underwrite United Way’s low administrative costs, ensuring that 100 percent of all individual gifts go directly to local programs.

Corporate Champions include: Aalfs Manufacturing Company, American Pop Corn Company, Argosy Casino -- Sioux City, Avery Brothers Sign Company, BPI Technology Inc./Beef Products Inc., Chesterman Company, Gelita USA -- Sioux City, Great West Casualty Company, Holtze Construction Company, John Morrell & Company, Klinger Companies Inc., Knoepfler Chevrolet, KTIV Television Inc., Long Lines LTD, M+ Architects, Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City, MidAmerican Energy, Palmer Candy Company, Phillips Kiln Services Ltd., Pioneer Bank, Scheels, Security National Bank, Sioux City Brick & Tile Company, Sioux City Ford Lincoln Mercury, Sioux City Journal, Siouxland Federal Credit Union, St. Luke’s Health System, Terra Industries Inc., Tyson Fresh Meats Inc., Union Pacific Railroad, U.S. Bank, Vantus Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Wigman Company, Williams & Company Consulting and Wilson Trailer Company

"Security National Bank has always been a good corporate citizen," said Dave Holub, senior vice president of Security National Bank. "Part of that responsibility includes being a supporter of United Way and all the good that it does in the community. Knowing that we are helping all donations get to where they are needed most allows us to be even more committed in our role as a corporate champion company."

United Way's campaign has been under way for nearly one month and is seeing promising results thus far. To date, more than 167 corporate and employee campaign pledges have been made to the campaign totaling $428,800. This represents a 20 percent increase in giving from the same accounts the previous year.

The overall communitywide goal for United Way of Siouxland this year is set at $3.2 million. To reach this goal, United Way hopes to receive ongoing support from more than 353 corporations, 316 employee campaign drives and a host of small fundraisers within supportive companies. United Way also relies on the support of many individuals and retirees in the community.

To spur the reporting of campaign results, this year United Way will promote all companies that turn their results in by Nov. 5. These companies will be recognized for their support as "Early-Bird" campaigns and will be promoted in a thank you ad in the Sioux City Journal and United Way’s e-newsletter.

Throughout the campaign, United Way hopes to educate the community on its new Community Impact initiatives aimed at improving the education, income and health of our community through its 26 partner agencies alongside additional community-based partners.
