North wins MRAC boys golf title

North's boys golf team outscored Bishop Heelan 338-346 while defending the Missouri River Activities Conference title Thursday at Whispering Creek.
Brett Lacey led from start to finish while winning medalist honors with an 83 for the Stars. Lacey entered the clubhouse leading after the first nine holes with a 40 while teammate Alex Walker and Heelan's Austin Svec were each at 41.
Lacey finished the final nine holes with a 43. Teammate Nick Hessa was the runner-up medalist, firing a pair of consistent 42's en route to an 84.
Counting scores for the conference champions also came from Walker (41-44 -- 85) and Evan Culver (46-40 -- 86).
Walker was last year's MRAC runner-up medalist. Lacey placed third at the meet a year ago.
Svec (41-43) and Lee Noel (41-43) each shot 84 to pace Heelan. East, third in the meet with a 349, was topped by Matt Neswick (42-43 -- 85).
Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson placed fourth with a 369 while West (384) and Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (392) also participated.
North won the MRAC junior varsity meet at Floyd Golf Course with a 302 while Heelan was second at 323. Third-place East (329) was followed by Thomas Jefferson (353), Abraham Lincoln (364) and West (384).
Heelan's Ben Rawlings was the medalist with a 71 (38-33) while runner-up medalist Brady Knudsen of North shot a 75 (43-32).
