Mary A. Campbell

Mary A. Campbell, 79, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in Rochester, Minn.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. vigil service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mary was born on July 21, 1929, in Earling, Iowa, to Frank H. and Mary M. (Ratigan) Schwarte. She grew up in the Onawa and Sioux City area, where she completed her schooling.

On Oct. 23, 1948, she married her grade school sweetheart, James Campbell at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. Mary was a mother and homemaker until her son, Denis went to college. She then began her career in retail at Toller Drug Store, Herberger's and finally at Bostwick's Clothing Store.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Mary loved to go fishing, camping, baking and taking care of her flowers. She also enjoyed sitting on her patio enjoying the breeze and lights.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, James of Sioux City; a son, Denis and wife, Carol Campbell of South Sioux City; two grandsons, Kirk and wife, Angie Campbell and T.J. and wife, Jessi Campbell, all of South Sioux City; six great-grandchildren, Aspen, Autumn, Faith, Kara, Kirsten and Andrew; a sister, Kathy and husband, Norbert Heinen of San Jose, Calif; her stepmother, Irene Schwarte; two half brothers, Ronnie Schwarte of Sioux City, and Joe Schwarte of Salix, Iowa; and a half sister, Nancy Zimmerman of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank H.; her mother, Mary Byrne; three sisters, Barbara Lou Coter, Joan Foltz and Janell Price; and two brothers, Leo and Francis Schwarte.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Campbell, Todd Campbell, Bob Campbell, Joe Schwarte, Ron Schwarte and Duane Bair.
