GPAC cage coaches like M'side, DWU

Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball coaches have voted the Morningside women and Dakota Wesleyan men No. 1 in their 2008-09 pre-season polls.
Coach Jamie Sale's Morningside women won last year's regular-season title with an 18-0 record and reached the NAIA Division II national tourney semfinals, finishing the campaign 33-4.
Coach John Hemenway's Wesleyan Tigers tied Dordt for third last season, each with 13-5 records, and were 24-9 overall
The Morningside women received 10 first-place votes and had 142 points. Hastings had two first-place votes and 129 points and reigning national champ Northwestern was fourth, picking up the other first-place vote.
The Red Raiders were 35-2 last season, but graduated its two top scorers, All-Americans Deb Remmerde and Amy Larson. Remmerde finished her career as the all-time leading scorer in NAIA Division II and was named Division II player of the year.
Hastings won 30 games last season and also reached the national semifinals in Sioux City.
Briar Cliff was seventh in the women's poll and sixth in the men's poll.
Dakota Wesleyan's men were picked on 12 of 13 first-place ballots. Northwestern, the GPAC post-season tourney champ, got the other first-place vote.
The Red Raiders, along with Morningside and Dakota Wesleyan, advanced to the Division II national tournament with Northwestern reaching the semifinals for the second straight year and posted a 30-5 record.
The Morningside men were third in the voting with 113 points and Dordt fourth with 110.
