Posted: Wednesday, October 08, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Details for the Nov. 7 Siouxland Sleep-Out at Lewis and Clark Park will be announced at an informal luncheon Oct. 14 at Community Support Services, 205 Fifth St.
A light meal will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by kickoff festivities.
The keynote speaker will be Joe Stutler, Linn County (Iowa) veteran affairs commissioner who has been active each year in the Linn County Sleep-Out.
Stutler has worked to improve the lives of Cedar Rapids area veterans and witnessed the many problems created by disastrous flooding there earlier this year.
Siouxland Sleep-Out will present Stutler with a special gift to help crucial rebuilding efforts in Linn County.
Last year, approximately 350 people, including many youths, spent the night outside at Lewis and Clark Park to draw attention to area homeless. This year, event organizers predict as many as 500 will be camped on the ground and in boxes and tents with more than $50,000 expected to be raised for area shelters and homeless recovery programs.
Anyone interested in attending the Oct. 14 luncheon or taking part in the Siouxland Sleep-Out should call Mike Wood at (712) 255-1691 or visit www.siouxlandsleepout.com..
