" Frank, if the suspect is speeding, it is far safer to shut down a pursuit and issue a ticket later. In fact, other pursuits are shut down even when the violation is more serious than a minor traffic infraction.

The police, so far as I can tell, have not stated what their pursuit policy is for following an obvious DUI suspect.

I expect better than a "pretty good job" from the police. When a cop makes an error, it could lost a life. "

" There seems to be a feeling that the officer should just record the plate and issue a speeding ticket later.
But, what if the driver is DUI and continues speeding down the road running over a pedestrian or killing someone in another vehicle? Would you then castigate the police officer for not stopping the vehicle?
Our police do a pretty good job of making difficult decisions within a few seconds and don't have access to a 'crystal ball' or 'instant replay' to help them make that decision. "

" A good alternative to high-speed chases is to launch a GPS tracking device at the car. With this device, the cops can follow suspects at a safe and undetected distance. This device will protect everyone: cop, suspect, and others innocent bystanders who might have been hurt or killed during a high-speed chase. The device would also protect property.

" I agree with Colorado. It don't matter who's to blame, what the officers name is or shoulda, coulda, woulda...this woman is gone at a young age and her kids and family are hurting. May Cassie Rest In Peace. "

" I understand this discussion is based on two points to chase or not to chase. One thing that everyone should keep in mind is that we are not discussing a hypothetical life. She was someone's mother, daughter, sister, and friend. No matter what her choices were in life, she didn't lead such a heinous life that the world is better off without her. In fact there are rarely these instances. I plead with all of you to be more sensitive to the people who loved her. Maybe you believe high speed chases are necessary under all circumstances and maybe you don't either way a healthy, logical discussion can be had without assassinating her character or justifying her death because of bad choices she made. You can win your argument and be sensitive to Cassie's family at the same time!! "
