Posted: Friday, October 10, 2008
LE MARS, Iowa -- "Dalton Days" will return Saturday for the seventh year to the ghost town of Dalton located two and a half miles west of Le Mars on Iowa Highway 3, and then south on Kettle Avenue. The Dalton Hotel sign is displayed at the hotel's former site along Highway. 3.
Featured during "Dalton Days" will be the blessing of animals at noon outside St. Francis Chapel at Dalton. Glada Koerselman, who started the blessing of animals in Le Mars, once again will confer the blessing. The service recognizes St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
Following the blessing, a pioneer meal will be served at approximately 1 p.m. on the lawn of the Plymouth County Historical Museum in Le Mars near the Weber Log Cabin. A freewill donation will be taken for the meal.
A photography exhibit of Dalton, a thriving town along the railroad line from 1889 until 1912, will be featured in the Museum's first floor "Hall of Champions."
