Nader: Government missed chance with bailout

Posted: Saturday, October 11, 2008
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Third party presidential candidate Ralph Nader says the government missed a historic chance to rein in greed and excess on Wall Street when it approved a financial bailout package.

Speaking Friday in Des Moines at a Statehouse news conference, Nader claimed Congress could have pushed for reforms but instead, "Wall Street stuffed Washington into a barrel and rolled them."

Nader focused on corporate greed at the news conference. He was set to speak at a rally later at Iowa State University.

This is the third straight presidential bid by the 74-year-old Nader. He is on the ballot in 45 states and the District of Columbia.
