Sioux City wastes Da Costa goals

Posted: Saturday, October 11, 2008
KEARNEY, Neb. -- Sioux City scored four third-quarter goals, three by Stephane Da Costa, but but the rally was too late as the Musketeers dropped a 5-4 United States Hockey League decision to Tri-City here Friday night.

Tri-City's Nick Hopper turned in a brilliant goaltending performance, stopping 43 shots as the Musketeers contructed a 47-38 shot advantage.

Eli Zuck and Jeff Smith scored goals in the first period for host Tri-City and Sioux City played catch-up the rest of the way.

Zuck scored just 1:56 into the game and Smith added a power play goal at 13:13 to give the Storm their 2-0 advantage. Smtih's power play goal was the sixth of the season for the Storm.

The Storm expanded its lead to 3-0 when Mike Cichy scored his third goal of the season at 5:51 of the second period. Cichy's scoring shot rattled off the crossbar and hit the net on Sioux City goaltender Steve Thompson's glove side.

Donnie Hallmark scored the other Sioux City goal in the third period.

Tri-City's Kyle Politz collected the winning goal, getting a short-handed red-lighter at 17:48 of the final period.

The loss left Sioux City with a 1-1 record coming into tonight's home opener at the Tyson Events Center against Lincoln.

Tri-City, meanwhile, improved its record to 2-1 and the Storm plays at Omaha tonight.
