South Sioux City rides defense to district triumph

ELKHORN, Neb. -- After giving up 54 points in a homecoming contest one week ago, the South Sioux City Cardinals held host Elkhorn Mt. Michael to 95 total yards and three points.

The effort was enough to secure a 13-3 victory in the Cardinals' district opener.

After a 38-yard Mt. Michael field goal by Steve Anderson, the Cardinals of Coach Matt LaFleur responded with a scoring drive capped by a 9-yard scoring strike from Kenny Wasmund to Taylor Rogers.

Adam Bobier added a 19-yard scoring run for South Sioux City to round out the scoring.

Bobier paced the Cardinals, now 2-5, with 117 yards on 25 totes. He also caught four passes. Wasmund added 83 yards rushing from his quarterback position. Wasmund also passed for 96 yards.

The Cardinals outgained the hosts 329 to 95. South Sioux City hosts Blair Friday in a district contest.
