Driver hits two on Historic Fourth Street

Posted: Monday, October 13, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- A man police say was driving while drunk struck two men in the crosswalk at Historic Fourth and Court streets about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. He continued driving west for about three blocks until two Woodbury County Sheriff's deputies brought his vehicle to a stop, according to Sioux City Police Sgt. Scott Hatting.

The two men were taken to Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City with non-life threatening injuries, Hatting said.

The driver, Kevin Jeffrey McManigal, 26, of South Sioux City, was arrested on a felony charge of drunken driving and with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a misdemeanor.

" Chris are you kidding? Different than the one on military road..they are contending they should have let her get away and contact her the next day...the accident on military happened in a short distance she hit a pole and if she didn't hit the pole would have went on to hit something or somebody else "

" Geez Chris, you "distort" the article to fit your opinion, saying the "truck" really didn't run, he stopped a block and a half after the police went after him. Laughable. The article didn't say the driver was in a truck, it says he continued driving for about 3 blocks until he was brought to a stop. I'm just so glad he didn't hit any more people in his continued travels. But then again, the deputies had to follow him 3 blocks to get him to stop, didn't they? I'm sure glad the article didn't say they "chased" him. "

" Lori, I don't think the concern was police stopping speeding cars, It was police chases. The truck that was involved really didn't run, he stopped a block and a half after the police went after him. And this was a very different situation, then the police chase on military road. Being the driver of the truck already had hurt two people, and if allowed to get away, chances are very good he would have hurt or killed more people.

I hope the driver of the truck spends a very long time in prison, he wasn't merely a drunk driver that hit two people, he was going well over the speed limit, and blew through two stop signs on purpose. "
