Nebraska band tops Dutchmen marching contest

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- For the first time in the five years of the Dutchmen Field Championship marching band contest, Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School was unable to capture first place in Class 4A Saturday night at Korver Field on the campus of Northwestern College. With a score of 88.3 from the judges, Roosevelt placed second behind Bellevue (Neb.) East, which compiled a score of 89.4

Nineteen bands competed at the contest, including several from Siouxland. The competition was hosted by the MOC-Floyd Valley High School Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band.

Here's how the bands placed:

Class 1A

1. Le Mars (Iowa) Gehlen

2. Woodbury Central

3. McCook (S.D.) Central

Percussion Award: Le Mars Gehlen

Color Guard Award: Le Mars Gehlen

Field Conductor Award: Le Mars Gehlen

Pizza Ranch "Triple S" Award (spirit, support, sportsmanship): McCook Central.

Class 2A

1. Sibley-Ocheyedan

2. Sheldon

3. Lennox (S.D.)

4. Sioux Center

Percussion Award: Sibley-Ocheyedan

Color Guard Award: Sibley-Ocheyedan

Field Conductor Award: Sheldon

Pizza Ranch "Triple S" Award: Sibley-Ocheyedan.

Class 3A

1. Pipestone (Minn.)

2. Luverne (Minn.)

3. Spirit Lake (Iowa)

4. Madison (S.D.)

Percussion Award: Pipestone

Color Guard Award: Pipestone

Field Conductor Award: Madison

Pizza Ranch "Triple S" Award: Pipestone.

Class 4A

1. Bellevue East

2. Sioux Falls Roosevelt

3. Brandon Valley (S.D.)

4. Sioux City North

5. Sioux City East

6. Millard South (Neb.)

7. Sioux City West

8. Yankton (S.D.)
