Republicans run to middle

WEST AKRON, S.D. -- The Journal's Oct. 5 story on Woodbury County Republicans didn't mention the number of Republicans who are running to the middle of the political spectrum. Like Bill O'Reilly and many others on the far right, Republicans are registering as Independents to distance themselves from Bush and Co., but still claim to support John McCain because Barack Obama is a (pick one) Marxist, socialist, Muslim terrorist, ect.

The reality of politics is that bad political decisions based on religious preference are dangerous. Bush said more than once we are fighting a holy war. And look where that got us. -- Douglas Heeren

" Akron is a very nice town. They have a few crazies, just like every other place, but the actions of one or two people should not reflect on the community. "

" In defense of Akron, I recently attended their Scarecrow festival and had a grand time. Akron is a nice clean friendly little town. More than I can say for Elk Point, or North Sioux or most of Sioux City. A couple of years ago my son needed a car and Dirks Motor actually found him the car he wanted and went to Waterloo to bring it back and delivered it to us. If you want to retire in a nice place, Akron might be the place. "

" I see that the person who got called out for using a dead classmate's name had those postings removed. That is good, but he should have asked that the letter he wrote - attacking someone whose last name is known - be removed too. Making assumptions and then anonymously placing personal attacks on someone whose last name is known is despicable and cowardly. "

" Akron and West Akron are not "all the same". West Akron is in South Dakota, "Land of the Free". Akron is in the "People's Republic of Iowa". And since Akron is a small town we are small minded folk? Not like you have won a Noble Prize or have a PHD from Yale now is it! And small town folk have pathetic lives. Oh that's right, I say you and Paris Hilton at the Oscar's this year. People like you make me want to vomit. Holier than thou, better than you, mud slinger who doesn't have any answers. If you really know this Douglas why don't you say this stuff to his face or even to the residents of Akron. Seems like they wouldn't want your worthless hide in their town. One point: If you life is so fullfilling why are you wasting time ripping people on a web site of a newspaper in a town in Iowa that no one outside of this area cares about? "
