Man pleads not guilty to Yankton triple murder

YANKTON, S.D. -- A Yankton, S.D. man says he's not guilty by reason of insanity for the shooting deaths of three people in his apartment complex in the southeast South Dakota city.
Court officials said Ernest Tupper, 57, pleaded not guilty today to three counts of first-degree murder, four counts of committing a felony while carrying a firearm and one count of aggravated assault.
His is slated to be in court next on Dec. 16 for a status hearing.
Tupper was arrested Sept. 26 after allegedly calling 911 to report he had killed three people at Marne Creek Apartments, 610 W. 21st St., Yankton.
Police found three victims dead inside Tupper's apartment: Robert Riibe, 21; Brian Vanwagner, 29, and Chassidy Bamsey, 21.
