SIOUX CITY -- The Sioux City Musketeers raised a gross total of $38,600 during last Friday’s first "Pink in the Rink" event at the Tyson Events Center.
Proceeds will go toward breast cancer awareness and education at St. Luke’s Imaging and Breast Screening Center and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Siouxland Affiliate.
Nearly 3,300 Siouxlanders attended the inaugural event in which $3 of every ticket sold went toward the fight against breast cancer. An additional $20,100 was raised during an auction of pink game jerseys, black and pink referee shirts and a quilt commemorating the event. T-shirts, pink ducks and other items also were sold as part of "Pink in the Rink" night.
"The Sioux City Musketeers are thrilled to be able to help in the fight against breast cancer, a disease which has personally touched many of us within our organization," said Musketeers President Jim Kronschnabel.
"From our dedicated fans and players to breast cancer survivors, we extend our gratitude for the generous support Siouxland showed for 'Pink in the Rink.' We look forward to turning the ice pink again next year and raising more dollars for the cause," Kronschnabel said.
"Pink in the Rink" was sponsored by the Sioux City Musketeers, St. Luke’s Health System, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Siouxland Affiliate, Clear Channel Radio, Avery Outdoor, Absolute Screen Art, KPTH Fox 44 and the Sioux City Journal.
