Photos of Buddy Holly's last performance sought

Posted: Wednesday, October 29, 2008
CLEAR LAKE, Iowa (AP) -- A documentary filmmaker is looking for photos of Buddy Holly's last performance.

Sevan Garabedian is offering a reward for photos from Holly's concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake on Feb. 2, 1959.

The documentary is about The Winter Dance Party, including the concert where Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson performed before they boarded a plane that crashed in a field north of Clear Lake.

In particular, Garabedian is looking for photos taken by a 14-year-old girl that night. He says the girl apparently took several rolls of film and was still living in the area as of the late 1980s.

He says he has heard from two different people who say they have seen the photos.

Garabedian says photos of Holly and the others have been made public from other venues they played during the tour, except Davenport and Clear Lake.
