SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A 3-year-old boy was in critical condition Tuesday night after Sioux Falls police say he jumped out of a car driven by his mother.

The boy was struck by an oncoming motorist who said she didn't see him.

Police say the child was riding in the back seat when he unbuckled his seat belt, opened a door and jumped from the car.

" Doug, WHT is up with that comment?? Maybe you should have been aborted so we don't have to be subject to your ranter. Crawl back into the hole to which you came from. "

" wow - it took my breath away to read doug's comments. wow. obviously not a parent or grandparent, or someone who actually understands and knows the incredible worth of a child. my prayer is you never know that unspeakable joy. it is hard to imagine just what you would do with a child. "

" Dear Doug

I hope you've been fixed so we never have to worry about you re-producing. Everyone say a prayer for this child and his family for a healthy recovery. "

" Liberals, you are All right. Don't blame the parent. Heaven forbid we actually expect a parent to ensure a 3 year olds safety! Lets blame this on Bush as well! Where was George & why was he NOT watching this child?! Accidents do happen, but when a 3 year old does not listen (or is not taught?) to keep his seat belt on & thinks that it is ok to jump out of a car? What is going on here? Not to mention most cars have child safety locks that can be engaged on rear doors to prevent a passenger getting out (similar to police cars where the door MUST be opened from the outside). But then again THE PARENT must be smart enough to actually use this option!! Maybe this is for the best & Darwinian rules win? I'm sure the apple didn't fall far from the tree. "
