Green Planet to mark start of soy processing production

Posted: Wednesday, October 29, 2008
SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Green Planet Farms has scheduled an event at 11 a.m. today to formally mark the start of production at its $40 million facility in South Sioux City's Roth Industrial Park.

At the event, Scott Blehm, state president of USDA Rural Development in Nebraska is scheduled to formally present a check to help finance the state-of-the-art processing equipment.

Green Planet, which opened its corporate offices this summer, anticipates having 60 to 70 employees within a year. The plant has developed a patent-pending "green water'' process that takes flour milled from nongenetically modified organic beans and turns it into soy protein isolate. Food processors use the ingredient in everything from meatless patties to health bars to baby formula.

The company has options on 28 acres next to the plant site for a future expansion.
