Election, a sleepout and a football showdown
Posted: Monday, November 03, 2008
These are just a few of the stories you will be talking about this week:
TODAY
Stock watch
Throughout history, October hasn't been good to the stock market. Our up-and-down October joins the crash of 1929 and Black Monday of 1987 as a seminal event taking place in the 10th month of the year. Will November treat us better? We'll begin to find out today.
TUESDAY
Election Day
Check out the Journal's live blog all day at siouxcityjournal.com as voters across the country go to the polls to elect our next president. But that's not all that's at stake. Republicans will try to regain control of the Iowa House, for instance, by targeting two Sioux City Democrats.
FRIDAY
Night out for a cause
The Siouxland Sleepout, a fundraising event to benefit the homeless, kicks off at 4 p.m. at Lewis & Clark Park. Yes, that's where the Explorers play. No, we don't know if Les Lancaster will be there. But you should definitely bundle up.
SATURDAY
Bragging rights battle
Sioux City's two NAIA football teams square of in Great Plains Athletic Conference play as Briar Cliff tries to upset No. 4 Morningside in a 1 p.m. game at Olson Stadium.
SUNDAY
Crosby, Nash & you
So there's no Stills and no Young. Get over it. David Crosby and Graham Nash should still put on a heck of a show when they hit the Orpheum Theatre stage at 7 p.m.
