Boxers and Bras benefit raises awareness

SIOUX CITY -- Fifty-two entries were submitted for the Boxers and Bras campaign to create awareness and encourage people to get a screening mammogram or colonoscopy.
"The Boxers and Bras campaign kicks off our ongoing efforts to educate the community on the importance of preventing cancer and to serve those who are unable to afford the screenings," said Karen Van De Steeg, executive director of the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. "We realize it was a bold and different way to raise awareness, but we know screenings save lives."
Approximately 125 people attended the Oct. 16 event at City Hall. Guests voted for their favorites. The following were voted winners:
Overall best boxer: St. Luke's Marketing; "Is There Junk in Your Trunk?"
Overall best bra: Sioux City Growth Organization; "Frost Your Fun Bags."
Best Cancer Message: St. Luke's Spirit of Women; "In the Spirit of Self-exams."
Best Business Message: Whispering Creek Golf Course; "Fore! A Good Cause."
