USD's Fitzsimmons is GWC's runner of year

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Ramsey Fitzsimmons, a junior from the University of South Dakota women's cross country team, has been named the Great West Conference's runner of the year, sharing the award with Daniel Martinez of Houston Baptist University.
Fitzsimmons, a former cross country and track standout at Yankton (S.D.) High School, led from start to finish as she picked up her fourth victory of the season at the inaugural GWC meet hosted by Utah Valley. She covered the 6,000-meter Lakeside Park Course in 22:47.4.
Fitzsimmons led the Coyotes to a second-place team finish in the meet at Provo, Utah. She also claimed victories this season in three home meets, the Don Baker Meet, the Tim Young Invitational and the Graphic Edge Invitational.
Fitzsimmons also finished in the top 10 of three other large meets, including a 10th at the Chile Pepper Open held at the University of Arkansas.
