Sleep-Out may experience precipitation, high winds

Posted: Friday, November 07, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Most of the several hundred pledged participants in this evening's Siouxland Sleep-Out at Lewis and Clark Park are expected to show up regardless of the forecast calling for precipitation and high winds, said event manager Willie Delfs.

There are many without a place to call home in the community and event volunteers may get a feel for what that is like in such weather conditions, event organizers said in a press release issued Thursday.

Among those volunteering are Sioux City City Manager Paul Eckert, Sioux City Councilman Jim Rixner, Gospel Mission Director Harold Youtzy and Emergency Services Director Gary Brown.

Those volunteering for the Siouxland Sleep-Out will come from throughout the tri-state area. The volunteers include youth groups from area high schools and colleges, churches of all denominations, veterans, teachers, social workers, nurses, doctors, clergy and the homeless.

Many businesses have provided funding and staff.

Those interested in coming out to the sleep-out or in making pledges to the mission may call (712) 255-1691.The event day phone will be (712) 258-4481.
