HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) -- A man accused of trying to set his wife on fire is scheduled to go on trial Tuesday in Hastings.
John M.C. Roberts of Hastings pleaded not guilty in January to charges of attempted murder, first-degree arson, attempted first-degree domestic assault and terroristic threats.
The 31-year-old Roberts allegedly poured gasoline on his wife and tried to ignite her.
The case was delayed until a mental health evaluation determined whether Roberts was competent to stand trial. Adams County Public Defender Art Toogood said the psychiatric report found Roberts competent and ineligible for an insanity defense.
