The week ahead: Buses, Disney and plenty of pigskin
Posted: Monday, November 17, 2008
Here are just a few of the stories you will be talking about this week:
TODAY
One game away
Heelan (12-0) will try to join West Lyon in Saturday's Iowa prep football championship game when it takes on fellow unbeaten Clear Lake at 4:30 p.m. But before that, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (12-0) plays IKM/Manning for a Class 2A title shot.
Saturday's not all right
The South Sioux City Council will consider ending Saturday bus service due to the expense per passenger. If the council votes to end service, the service will likely end after the holiday season.
WEDNESDAY
Big plans
North Sioux City wants a public library. The Waitt family has stepped in to help, donating three acres to the effort. On Wednesday, a sign will be unveiled at the new site as officials try to fill the funding gap. They have raised $1.1 million and need $3 million.
THURSDAY
Disney on Ice
Mickey, Minnie and the gang perform the first of six shows at the Tyson Events Center, starting Thursday and running through Sunday. Visit www.tysoncenter.com for more information.
SATURDAY
Playoff bound
Morningside, fresh off a close but disappointing loss to rival Sioux Falls, hosts Baker (Kan.) University at noon in the first round of the NAIA football playoffs.
