LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- The American and Nebraska flags will be flown at half-staff in honor of former state Sen. Bernice Labedz.
Labedz, who also served on the Douglas County board, died Saturday at 89.
Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey had asked Gov. Dave Heineman to order that the flags be lowered.
On Wednesday, the day of her funeral, the flags will be at half-staff in Omaha and in Lincoln at the Capitol and the governor's residence.
Labedz was appointed to the Legislature in 1976 to fill the seat vacated by Eugene Mahoney, who resigned to become director of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Labedz left the Legislature in 1992 and then was elected to the Douglas County Board. She stepped down in 1997 for health reasons.
