Make-A-Wish announces 2008 Holiday Lighting Contest
Posted: Tuesday, November 18, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa is issuing an invitation to all Siouxland residents to take part in the 2008 Make-A-Wish Holiday Lighting Contest.
The annual competition will award prizes to area residents with the best holiday lighting displays that can be viewed from outside homes and apartments, said Curt Stoever, chairman of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa Area Committee.
Those entering the contest are asked to make a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation when sending in their entry form.
Judges will select winners in three divisions: the Home Lighting and Decorating Contest, the Neighborhood Lighting Contest and the Clark Griswold Competition.
Entries in the Home Lighting and Decorating Contest will be judged in each of six areas. Three of the areas are in Sioux City, the West High School District, the North High School District and the East High School District. The other three areas are South Sioux City/Dakota City; Sergeant Bluff and North Sioux City/Dakota Dunes/McCook Lake.
Individual winners in each of the six areas will receive a special prize pack filled with gifts, Stoever said. Last year's winners are eligible to win the home lighting contest again this year, he added.
Judges will select one winner in the Neighborhood Lighting Contest for three or more homes in a specific area anywhere in the immediate tri-state area.
"The Clark Griswold Competition recognizes the highly competitive nature of some holiday decorators," Stoever said. "Named for the lead character in the movie 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation,' the Griswold Competition is reserved for those who approach the holiday lighting season with passion and unbridled enthusiasm."
Entrants in the Clark Griswold Competition will be asked to make a $25 contribution to Make-A-'Wish. At the same time, they will be ineligible for the regular Home Lighting and Decorating Contest.
Contestants must complete an entry form which will appear in the Journal and return it with a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 413 W. Clifton Ave., Sioux City, Iowa, 51104. Entries are due by 5 p.m. Dec. 11.
Contest entries will be judged from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 15. Contest winners will be announced Dec.16.
