OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- An Omaha baby sitter has been sentenced to 18 to 20 years in prison for severely injuring an infant she slammed into a door.
Mona Walker had pleaded no contest in September to felony child abuse. She told the court then that she battered 3-month-old Lauren Wentz in March because the baby wouldn't stop crying.
Authorities say Walker punched the baby twice with a closed fist, then swung the infant, slamming the baby's head into a door.
Lauren is now 11 months old. Her parents say she has made some improvement, but still isn't able to crawl. They say the family's medical bills have reached $380,000.
