BVU's Anderson is IIAC football coach of year

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Buena Vista University football coach Jay Anderson, who guided his team to a second-place finish in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, has been named the league's coach of the year.
Under Anderson's guidance, Buena Vista (7-3, 6-2 IIAC), which placed second in the league for the first time since 1986, led the Iowa Conference in scoring defense (14.4 ppg) and ranked among the top three in the IIAC in 12 other statistical categories. This is the seventh time a Buena Vista coach has won the honor and the first since current Loras head coach Steve Osterberger was cited in 2004.
Offensively, senior wide receiver Eric Bertelsen (22 catches, 422 yards, 5 TDs) and senior center Trevor Urich represented Buena Vista on the first team. Urich anchored a line for an offense that ranked third in the league, average 343.6 total yards.
Buena Vista was represented on the first-team defense by senior defensive back Rahn Franklin (35 tackles, 6 interceptions) and senior linebacker Michael Sly (36 tackles, 3.5 quarterback sacks).
Wartburg College freshman Josh Van Den Hul, a former Dakota Valley High School standout, made the first team as a return specialist. He returned 18 punts for 209 yards and also returned 15 kickoffs for 406 yards for a squad that had an 8-2 record.
Loras College senior running back Alex McGrew (1,592 yards rushing, 20 TDs) was named the league's most valuable player.
