Sioux City rings in holidays today

The Christmas season officially begins this evening in downtown Sioux City. The annual Holiday Lighted Parade starts at 6:15 p.m., and Santa Claus arrives at 6:45 p.m.
Holiday Lighted Parade
When: 6:15 p.m. today
Where: Starts at Fourth and Water streets, winds along Fourth Street and ends at Roth Fountain.
What else: Santa Claus arrives at 6:45 p.m. to a warm welcome complete with choral music and fireworks.
Festival of Trees
When: Starts at 6:30 p.m. today. Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Live auction is Dec. 4.
Where: Terra Centre, 600 Fourth St.
What else: A bell choir, madrigal singers and ballet and gymnastics troupes will perform this evening. Silent bids will be accepted through Dec. 3 to benefit Jackson Recovery Centers day-care program. Donations can also go to a giving tree and a mitten tree.
Santa's House
When: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, then 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 21. Special Needs Day is Dec. 9, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the hearing impaired, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for children with emotional, mental or physical challenges.
Where: Town Square, Fourth and Pierce streets.
What else: Kids can visit Santa (and get a photo with him for $4) and enjoy Mrs. Claus' holiday treats. Shop at Santa's Nifty Gift Shop to benefit St. Luke's Children's Miracle Network and Sergeant Bluff Kiwanis youth programs.
