Landsmeer named IGA course of the year

ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Landsmeer Golf Club has been named the Iowa Golf Association 18-hole course of the year, according to Sioux Cityan Mike Pape, a member of the IGA board of directors.
The IGA board of directors announced the award at their annual meeting last weekend at The Tournament Club in Iowa City, The awards have been bestowed annually since 1981.
Landsmeer, Dutch for "lake of the land," was built on the outskirts of Orange City with a strong support of community volunteers and opened for play in 1995. Dan Mulder is the golf course superintendent and Mike Fiddelke the head PGA professional.
MOC-Floyd Valley and Unity Christian High Schools, as well as Northwestern and Dordt Colleges, play their home meets at Landsmeer. The course played host to the 2004 Iowa High School boys state tournament and the 2004 Iowa Senior Amateur Championship.
Ridge Stone Golf Club in Sheffield is the IGA nine-hole course of the year. Chad Wilson of The Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes is honored as the 18-hole superintendent of the year while Phil Van Roekel of Ankeny Golf and Country Club was named nine-hole superintendent of the year for the second time in five years.
Kim Comes of Atlantic Golf and Country Club is the club manager of the year. John Panek of Davenport Country Club won the honor of PGA professional of the year.
